Men's Ministry There is a stirring of God among men today. Within and without the visible church, there are a number of renewal movements. As men are raising hands in prayer and praise, they are humbling themselves and seeking God's will for their lives. They are being drwn together, not only in large and impressive gatherings, but in small accountability groups where each man is challenged to be wholly submitted to God and to live a life of integrity...as husband, father, citizen, worker, and member of the Body of Christ. This ministry is for men...to discover God's design for man by studying the men of the Bible. Focusing on a small portion of more than 3,000 men named in Scripture, it begins with Adam, the first man. In chronological order, it not only introduces men as real-life characters with whom we can identify, but outlines a lesson appropriate to the concerns of men today. The culmination of the list is Jesus Christ...who was not only the Son of God, but the Word made flesh to dwell among us and Who is now interceeding for us as our "Brother." We live in a world of spiritual anemia and scriptural proverty where men are prisoners of addiction, compulsive behavior, and low self-esteem. So, we feel inadequate, guilty, hopeless. Thus, it is my prayer that a study of Bible men will help us be restored and conformed to the image of God's Son, and to be filled and annointed with God's Spirit, so that we, like Jesus will preach good news to the poor...proclaim freedom for the prisoners, and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor. (Luke 4:18-19) May the words of the old hymn, written in 1911 by William A. Merrill, manages not only to equip ourselves with the full counsel of God as found in Bible study, but also be our inspiration to pass God's truth and hope on to others. Rise up, O men of God! Have done with lesser things; Rise up, O men of God! His Kingdom tarries long; Rise up, O men of God! The church for you doth wait, Lift high the cross of Christ!
